Data Sharing Days Event kicks off today in The Hague

Data soevereiniteit

The first Data Sharing Days (DSD) event is getting underway today at the Crowne Plaza Promenade Hotel in The Hague, The Netherlands. The unique conference, co-hosted by INNOPAY, is bringing together more than 100 participants from organisations worldwide. They can look forward to two days of presentations by an impressive line-up of inspiring visionaries, experts, speakers and industry partners, including Douwe Lycklama, Ruben Verborgh, Susan Morrow, Yvo Volman and many more.

INNOPAY’s founding partner Douwe Lycklama is a thought leader in the digital transactions ecosystem, with a strong track record of shaping breakthrough business and market innovations, standards and schemes. Today he is speaking about data sovereignty, and tomorrow he will open the second and final day of DSD 2020.

Ruben Verborgh is a professor of semantic web technology at Belgium’s University of Ghent. He is also closely involved in Solid, a new ecosystem started by the inventor of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee. At DSD, Ruben is speaking about ‘The Future of The Internet’.

In her session at DSD 2020, Susan Morrow, a prominent member of the Women in Identity community, will elaborate on what needs to happen in the digital identity landscape in order to achieve data sovereignty.

Yvo Volman, head of the Data Policy and Innovation unit at the Directorate General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology of the European Commission, is speaking about the importance of data and data sovereignty for Europe.

Theme: Data Sovereignty

The demand for data control by citizens, companies and governments is higher than ever before due to numerous recent data leaks and scandals and the rapidly growing power of the tech giants. The essential ingredient is trust in those with whom we complete data transactions. More trust means a lower transaction cost for data sharing, resulting in better accessibility to the data needed to build and grow a business.

However, rebuilding trust and giving data owners control over their data through the construct of data sovereignty has many implications for business, technological processes and the regulatory landscape. That’s why the two-day Data Sharing Days event is aimed at creating awareness of the importance of data sovereignty for individual organisations and society in general. Accordingly, the theme of this year’s DSD is: ‘How to use data sovereignty to create value’.
